People learn and practice this Technique to help relieve pain and discomfort, to promote health and well-being and to improve their performance and enjoyment of everyday activities such as sitting, standing, and walking. Anything that involves movement can be improved through learning the technique.
How does it work?
We all tend to do things in the way we have always done them and often in an habitual, automatic manner that uses a lot of unnecessary muscular effort.
By learning to recognise these patterns we can learn to let go of this unnecessary tension.
What can it help with?
People whatever their age typically experience improvement in dealing with:
What to expect in a lesson?
You can use any activity that interests you to learn the Technique. It is immensely practical. Most people like to start with an everyday activity such as sitting, standing or walking, and are often surprised at the changes in themselves through letting go of unnecessary effort and tension. Through a combination of dialogue and gentle use of hands we come to a new understanding of ourselves and an experience of the simple joy of being in movement.
Some people like to come weekly, while others find that once or twice a month or whenever they feel like it, works for them. If you are new to the Alexander Technique then having a course of 6 lessons is a good way to start.
Individual lessons last about 30 minutes and cost £25. An introductory course of 6 lessons would cost £130
Some people prefer the social interaction of small groups where each person has a lesson and you get a chance to observe the changes in other people as well as oneself.
Wednesday Mornings 10am – 11am £10 per person. Maximum of 4 people in the group.
